Nauki o życiu, w tym biologia i ekologia, które niegdyś koncentrowały się na badaniu systemów żywych i naszych relacjach z nimi, coraz częściej stają się naukami o wymieraniu. Wielu naukowców, w tym biolodzy i ekolodzy, ostrzega przed skutkami tego procesu, wskazując na konieczność podjęcia globalnych działań ochronnych. Choć w przeszłości próbowano wzywać do zmian (np. w 1992 i 2017 roku), ostrzeżenia te nie zostały wystarczająco poważnie potraktowane przez polityków. Naukowcy, coraz częściej przyjmują rolę orędowników, angażując się w aktywizm na rzecz ochrony środowiska, by podkreślić pilność sytuacji i dążyć do zmian systemowych. Ważnym aspektem w tej walce jest współpraca między naukami przyrodniczymi, społecznymi i humanistycznymi, a także uwzględnianie wiedzy ludów tubylczych. Naukowcy zauważają, że ich zaangażowanie w kwestie polityczne i społeczne, mimo obaw o utratę wiarygodności, jest niezbędne, ponieważ społeczeństwo oczekuje od nich aktywnego udziału w rozwiązywaniu globalnych problemów.
Abstract
Life sciences, including biology and ecology, which once focused on studying living systems and our interactions with them, are increasingly becoming sciences of extinction. Many scientists, including biologists and ecologists, warn about the consequences of this process, emphasizing the need for global protective actions. Although calls for change have been made in the past (e.g., in 1992 and 2017), these warnings have not been taken seriously enough by politicians. Scientists are increasingly taking on the role of advocates, engaging in environmental activism to highlight the urgency of the situation and push for systemic changes. An important aspect of this struggle is the collaboration between natural, social, and human sciences, as well as incorporating the knowledge of indigenous peoples. Scientists recognize that their involvement in political and social issues, despite concerns about losing credibility, is essential, as society expects them to actively participate in solving global problems.
